"GOOD GRINDING ROCK!
The world once again seems ready for this kind of music. About time, too."
-Alan Cross, Radio Host of "A History of New Music"
Under a backdrop of strong roots rock, coupled with a southern flavor, The Southdowns infect the ear with a distinct blend of rock and roll, country, southern rock and blues. Their music is unique, yet immediately recognizable and boasts radio friendly melodies; their live shows continue to turn heads wherever they play.
Beyond the music, however, lies the fundamental belief that passion, fueled with soul and kindled by old friendships are like keys that unlock magic. And so it was that the Southdowns formed on Southdown Road, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, when several old friends reunited for a high school reunion, chemistry took over, and it was as if no time had elapsed at all.
The band consists of powerhouse songwriting duo Jeff Vetere (Lead Vocals) and Joe Bosi (Rhythm Guitar), alongside members Greg Florov (Drums), Nick Pickett (Bass), and Joey Bujold (Lead Guitar).
Since the release of their first EP in 2017, The Southdowns have garnered a dedicated and loyal fan following. They’ve been nominated by both the Mississauga Arts Council for Upcoming Group Artist awards at the 2018 and 2019 Martys, as well as another nomination for the 2018 Mississauga Music Awards. Recently in 2019, their music video for their first release “Continental” was among the top 100 finalists for CBC’s National Searchlight contest, among thousands of entries. They have performed at a number of larger venues and festivals, including the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, The Canada Day Together Festival in Mississauga, and the Sound of Music festival in Burlington.
Their music immediately stands out with heartfelt lyrics, melodies and strong riffs and a sound that is distinctly unique due to the diverse band members influences – Their ultimate aim is to inspire their listeners to recapture the love and passion of rootsy Rock and Roll music that stirs passion and soothes the soul.
